Kim Sherman first learned about placenta donation when she was expecting her second child, who was set to be born via scheduled C-section. Her doctor encouraged her to consider donating her placenta, which can be used to treat wounds, diabetic ulcers and more. “It was a no-brainer,” she says. “I was having a C-section anyway, and I wasn’t doing anything with my placenta. Why not donate it instead of throwing it out?”
Now, Kim urges other mothers to consider donating their birth tissue, too. “It’s so easy, and there was nothing else that I had to do,” she says. “There was no extra step I had to take for my C-section. It seemed like a no-brainer to do it.”
