Placenta Donation
Donating your birth tissue, or placenta, following the birth of your baby can mean giving the gift of life twice.
“I encourage others to do their research about any kind of organ and tissue donation. It’s such a wonderful gift.”
Nicole - Placenta Donor and Advocate
Expectant mothers with planned Caesarean sections (C-sections).
The health and safety of mother and baby are always our first priority. There are no risks to mother or baby during placenta donation. Placenta is collected following the baby’s birth and is typically discarded if it is not donated.
We will thank you for your time and end the conversation.
Our partner, MTF Biologics, uses donated placental tissue to develop wound care applications for patients in need of grafts.
Versiti donation specialists only have access to the patient’s name, phone number and scheduled surgery date. More information will not be gathered unless informed consent for placenta donation is obtained.
The program is limited to planned C-sections to ensure there are sufficient staff available to acquire donated placenta.
Donor mothers will receive a token of thanks from Versiti in recognition of your lifesaving gift, including a “Beacon Baby” onesie. However, donors are not compensated or charged in any way for their placenta donation. The benefit to the mother is knowing you have helped others in need.
