Trey was just 4 years old when he received the life-changing news – he had cancer.
Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, he began three years of grueling chemotherapy treatments. He received 13 red blood and six platelet transfusions to help his body recover. These transfusions gave him both the energy to be himself – and to battle cancer.
In 2011, six years since his original diagnosis, Trey was declared cancer-free.
Trey’s parents, Dwayne and Kathy, are loyal blood donors who hosted blood drives even as Trey was going through treatment. Motivated to give back, Trey, on his 17th birthday, made his first blood donation at his high school’s blood drive.
“It’s a great thing to do, because I’m giving back to what they gave me when I went through cancer,” says Trey.
Today, Trey and his family are advocates for blood donation to save the lives of even more patients in our community.
“Trey is alive today because 13 people donated their time and their blood to save a life. “Giving blood is such an amazing gift,” says Kathy.
