Milwaukee — March 20, 2025

On Saturday, March 15, a vibrant celebration of health and community took place as the Milwaukee (WI) and Cream City (WI) chapters of The Links, Incorporated came together for the third annual Black Family Wellness Expo. This event was part of a larger initiative, with more than 300 chapters across 41 states participating in a National Day of Impact aimed at promoting wellness and health education.

The local chapters expressed their heartfelt gratitude to ThriveOn for graciously hosting the event, along with Kinship and 101.7 The Truth. Special recognition was also given to the leadership at Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin, which served as the lead partner for the event, alongside the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

The Expo achieved remarkable milestones that underscored its commitment to community health:

  • Blood Type Discoveries: A total of 44 participants discovered their blood type during the event, with 18 individuals identified as Ro, crucial for supporting sickle cell patients in need.
  • High Attendance: One hundred thirty attendees signed in at the registration table, not counting those who entered through different access points, highlighting strong community interest.
  • Health Screenings: Forty-three blood pressure checks were conducted, alongside additional blood donations, emphasizing the importance of monitoring health metrics.
  • Wellness and Meditation: Two family wellness and meditation sessions provided attendees with tools for mental and emotional health.
  • Culinary Education: In partnership with Kinship, a cooking demonstration and healthy snacks were provided for 100 people, promoting healthy eating habits.
  • Blood Donations: The event successfully collected 10 units of blood, potentially saving up to 30 lives in the community.
