Stage for Life: Where Every Act Counts - Versiti Blood Center and Milwaukee Ballet Partner for Inaugural Blood Drive

Milwaukee — March 06, 2025

Sleeping Beauty Blood Drive Sparks a Movement Linking Arts and Lifesaving Generosity

The Sleeping Beauty Blood Drive

In a new collaboration, Versiti Blood Center and Milwaukee Ballet are connecting the city’s arts community with the mission of blood donation. The inaugural Sleeping Beauty Blood Drive will take place on March 21 (10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) at the Baumgartner Center for Dance, home of the Milwaukee Ballet.

As part of the Stage for Life campaign, this initiative highlights the shared values of arts patrons and blood donors—community, compassion, and connection. With a goal to inspire first-time donors and encourage ongoing support, Stage for Life transforms blood donation into an act of generosity, much like the performing arts.

A New State for Saving Lives

The campaign was inspired by a question from a Milwaukee Ballet student who saw the success of Versiti’s college and athletic competitions to boost blood donation and asked a simple yet profound question: “Why not a ballet Blood Battle?” This simple idea ignited a larger vision.

"The arts and blood donation both reflect the belief that people need people,” said Gretchen Jameson, chief marketing officer at Versiti. “With this partnership, we’re creating new ways for the community to engage and make a real difference for those in need."

Dancing with Purpose

Milwaukee Ballet Artistic Director Michael Pink sees a clear connection between art and action. “Inspiration can move us to make a difference,” he said. “We’re proud to support a campaign that deepens our connection with patrons while promoting life-saving generosity.”

Tying in with Milwaukee Ballet’s upcoming production of Sleeping Beauty, the blood drive will feature thematic elements from the fairy tale. Donors will also receive a BOGO ticket offer for Sleeping Beauty, which runs from April 11 to 13.

A Movement Just Beginning

The Sleeping Beauty Blood Drive is just the start. Versiti is building partnerships with other Milwaukee arts organizations to expand the Stage for Life campaign, bringing music, theater, dance, and visual arts into the initiative.

"This is more than a one-time event—it's a movement that unites the arts and blood donation in a meaningful way," Jameson added.

How to Participate

The community is invited to be part of this unique event by making an appointment to donate blood on March 21 at the Baumgartner Center for Dance. Donors can schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-BE-A-HERO (1-877-232-4376) or visiting Versiti.org.

Anyone 17 or older in good health and meeting eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate.

Together, we can turn the stage into a platform for saving lives—one act of generosity at a time!

Blood Donation Critical Following Winter Storms and Rise in Illness
Versiti Blood Center of Michigan has issued an emergency plea for blood donations. The persistent winter weather and a rise in illness such as norovirus have significantly disrupted donations, resulting in less than a day’s supply of critical blood types for patients in our local hospitals.
