What is Versiti on King?

Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin opened its innovative, permanent blood and community resource center on Milwaukee’s North Side in fall 2024. Located within the ThriveOn King development, Versiti on King offers essential resources designed to foster community wellness and growth, including:

  • Employment and job skills training, with specialized opportunities for aspiring Versiti phlebotomists
  • Health education on diseases such as sickle cell disease, diabetes, and other conditions significantly affecting our local neighborhoods
  • Convenient blood donation services provided at a dedicated Versiti donor center
  • A dedicated community health navigator
  • Accessible social support services

Through proactive community outreach and advocacy, Versiti is committed to serving as a trusted resource and catalyst for positive change in historically underserved neighborhoods.

Free parking is available in the parking structure at 320 W. Lloyd St., located at the corner of W. Lloyd St. and Vel R. Phillips Ave. Simply pull up, press the button to request access, and inform them you're visiting Versiti.

The building entrance faces the parking structure. Enter the building, pass through the vestibule, proceed straight through, and then turn left.

Who will Versiti on King benefit?

Conditions like sickle cell disease, lupus, cancer, and organ failure disproportionately impact people of color. Versiti on King collaborates with local health experts to educate and raise awareness about the critical importance of maintaining a vibrant and varied blood supply, disease prevention, and accessible healthcare resources.

Community Health Navigator

The community health navigator is a trusted community advocate who bridges individuals and healthcare or social service providers. This role enhances access to care, improves service delivery quality, and ensures cultural understanding.

Our Navigator plays a key role in neighborhood health and well-being:

  • Guides community members in navigating the healthcare system
  • Connects individuals and families to vital resources
  • Tracks referrals and appointments, including primary care, dental, and vision services
  • Assists community members facing housing, safety, transportation, and food security challenges
  • Provides personalized guidance on health priorities and healthcare needs

Additionally, the community health navigator plays a key role in promoting awareness about the critical importance of a vibrant and varied blood, organ, and tissue donation supply to ensure better health outcomes for everyone in our community.

All blood donations are valuable, and save lives. However Mario's blood is special, it's missing a certain protein and is shared by 1 in 500 African Americans, which makes it rare and unique.
