Versiti and Advocate Aurora Health partner to encourage blood donation on September 11

MILWAUKEE – Sept. 1, 2021 – On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Versiti is partnering with Advocate Aurora Health to remember the heroes and to honor the lives of the 2,977 Americans lost on that tragic day. In the spirit of the countless blood donors who rolled up their sleeves and gave blood in the days and weeks that followed the events of 9/11, Versiti and Advocate Aurora will host the Milwaukee Remembers Blood Drive on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

“Donating blood is a small way to be an everyday hero and to honor those who lost their lives on that tragic day 20 years ago," said Dr. Dan Waxman, vice president of transfusion medicine and senior medical director at Versiti. "One donation of blood can save up to three lives, and every donation helps us to ensure that blood is available in times of crisis. We are asking the community to join us in remembrance and answer the call to be a Beacon of Hope.”

All blood types are needed, with type O-positive and O-negative most in demand. O-positive is the most common blood type, while O-negative blood is the universal type that can be received safely by all patients in emergencies when the blood type is not known.
