Lions Leadership Challenge Official Rules
OFFICIAL RULES
Versiti Blood Center of Michigan has partnered with the Detroit Lions to create awareness of the need for a strong and consistent blood supply within our community. By hosting a blood drive this summer, participating high schools can compete to receive a $1,000 equipment voucher from the Detroit Lions. More importantly, participating high schools can help their communities save lives.
The Versiti Blood Center of Michigan / Detroit Lions for Life Leadership Challenge (the “Contest”) is sponsored by the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, 1036 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 (the “Sponsor”) and DLI Properties, LLC, 2000 Brush St., Suite 200, Detroit, MI 48226 (“Prize Provider”).
The Contest is not a game of chance; winning schools will be selected based on the criteria stated below. The Contest is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.
ELIGIBILITY: The Program is open to participating high schools located within the State of Indiana. Eligible high schools will fall into one of two categories:
- “New Schools” include those high schools that have not previously hosted a blood drive with Versiti.
- “Existing Schools” include those high schools that have previously hosted a Versiti blood drive.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Eligible high schools interested in participating in the Contest should contact their Versiti Account Representative or contact Ashley Minor at the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan by phone (616-514-0790) or by email (aminor@versiti.org). Once a high school notifies its representative or Ashley Minor of its desire to participate in the Contest, an affiliation code will be added to Versiti’s system to identify the blood drive associated with this Contest.
To participate in the Contest, a high school will be required to host one (1) blood drive between May 26, 2025 and September 1, 2025 (the “Contest Period”). Blood drives that take place before or after the Contest Period will not be eligible. Sponsor will provide instructions and guidance to the high schools on planning, scheduling, and hosting a blood drive, including how to select a time and location for the blood drive and how to recruit volunteers and potential donors.
PRIZES AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES (“ARV”): Five (5) high schools will be selected as winners in total based on the criteria outlined below in Selection of Winners. Specifically, one (1) Existing School with over 1,000 students will be selected as a winner for largest overall collections; one (1) New School with over 1,000 students will be selected as a winner for largest overall collections; one (1) Existing School with under 1,000 students will be selected as a winner for largest overall collections; one (1) New School with under 1,000 students will be selected as a winner for largest overall collections; and one (1) New or Existing School will be selected as winners for having the most first-time donors. Each winning school will receive:
- $1,000 equipment voucher from the Detroit Lions (ARV: $1,000)
- Public announcement to local press and coverage on Versiti’s and Colt’s social media channels (ARV: no intrinsic value, priceless)
Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. Taxes on prize (if any) are the sole responsibility of the winner. Where not prohibited, prize acceptance form, publicity release, and/or mutually acceptable liability releases may be required as a condition of prize award if requested by Sponsor. Any and all guarantees and warranties for merchandise prizes are subject to the manufacturer’s and/or service providers terms and conditions, and winner agrees to look solely to such manufacturers and/or service providers for any warranty or guarantee claim. Prizes are non-transferable except in the sole discretion of the Sponsor. No substitution or cash equivalent is allowed. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes of the same approximate retail value. Prize consists only of items specifically listed as part of the prize. All costs and expenses not specified herein, related to any prize, including but not limited to delivery, installation, service activation fees, and other expenses incurred by accepting the prize, are the sole responsibility of the winner.
SELECTION OF WINNERS: Sponsor representatives will serve as the judges and will calculate the score for each participating school using the formula below:
Score Calculation: Number of blood units collected at blood drive hosted by the school during the Contest Period = School Score
Example: School A hosts a blood drive during the Contest Period that collected 70 units of blood.
- 70 units = School Score
Sponsor’s records and database will be used both (i) to determine the number of blood units collected for each blood drive and (ii) to identify the number of first-time donors. (For purposes of clarity, the number of blood units means the actual number of blood units collected, and not, for example, the number of registered donors.)
The Existing School with over 1,000 students that achieves the highest school score from among all participating Existing Schools with over 1,000 students will be deemed a winner. The New School with over 1,000 students that achieves the highest school score from among all participating New Schools with over 1,000 students will be deemed a winner. The Existing School with under 1,000 students that achieves the highest school score from among all participating Existing Schools with under 1,000 students will be deemed a winner. The New School with under 1,000 students that achieves the highest school score from among all participating New Schools with under 1,000 students will be deemed a winner. The one Existing School or New School that achieves the highest number of first-time donors will be deemed a winner. All judges’ and Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding.
In the unlikely event of a tie affecting winner selection, the tied entrant that conducted its blood drive on the earlier date will be deemed the winner. If a tie still exists, the tied entry that collected the most blood units from donors under 25 years of age will be deemed the winner. If a tie still exists, the tied entry that collected the most blood units from donors between 25 and 40 years of age will be deemed the winner.
NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS: Winning schools will be notified on or about September 30, 2025 by phone, email, and/or regular mail, in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Winner will be required to respond within fourteen (14) business days of notification, or the prize may be forfeited, and an alternate winner will be
chosen. Prize acceptance forms and/or mutually acceptable publicity and liability releases may be required and, if so requested, must be returned within the reasonable specified time or prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner chosen. Upon winner confirmation, Sponsor will work with winning schools and provide information on how to obtain prize.
PUBLICITY RELEASE: Except where prohibited, acceptance of the prize constitutes winner’s consent that its name, likeness, and/or geographical data may be used for advertising and promotional purposes without limitation and without additional notice, compensation, or consent.
