Kashiun and her husband were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their third child when things took a concerning turn. “We were excited and hopeful; I’d had two other deliveries, and everything went smoothly and safely,” she says. “But upon the laboring process, things started getting complicated.”

Kashiun went in for an emergency C-section and started losing a lot of blood. “My husband told me that I was dying and that I had to have blood to save me,” she says. Over the next week, Kashiun had an additional surgery and received three units of blood to keep her strong. “I am forever grateful for blood donors,” she says. “Without them, I wouldn’t be here.”
