Give Back Your Way

There are plenty of ways to get involved if you were deferred from donating blood.

Information for Deferred Blood Donors

Thank you for stepping up to donate blood and save lives! Your dedication and passion mean the world to us. Even though you were deferred from donating blood, there are plenty of ways you can make an impact and help further Versiti’s lifesaving mission.

Volunteer

Volunteers play a huge part in helping to save lives in our communities. No matter your interest and skill level, there is a volunteer position for everyone, including:

  • Assisting donors at donor centers and blood drives
  • Staffing information tables at community events
  • Delivering blood products to local hospitals
  • Knitting comfort shawls for organ and tissue donor families
  • And more!

Fund Lifesaving Research

Every day, scientists at Versiti Blood Research Institute work hard to better understand life-threatening diseases that affect your family, friends, neighbors and colleagues. Philanthropic contributions enable our investigators to explore new avenues of research and develop better, less toxic treatments for cancer, autoimmune diseases and more.

Host a Blood Drive or Donor Center Takeover Event

Just because you may not be able to donate blood right now doesn’t mean your family and friends can’t! Host a blood drive or donor center takeover event with your family, friends, colleagues and neighbors. Not only will you collect blood for patients in need, but you’ll help spread the word about the importance of donation.

Meet Gretchen

Gretchen is a two-time breast cancer survivor who has mobilized her network to donate blood and help other cancer patients in their fight. “As a cancer warrior, I never faced the battle alone,” she says. “Though I can’t donate for a year due to my treatment, I’m more determined than ever to give back in any way possible.”

Your passion means the world to us, and we hope that you’ll continue to engage in our lifesaving mission. Hope is in our blood and with your help, we can continue to make a difference for patients in our communities.
