Honoring Dr. Lynn Malec: An Advocate, Mentor, and Pioneering Hematologist

Versiti joins colleagues across the medical and research community in mourning the loss of Dr. Lynn Malec, a physician-scientist whose work advanced care and hope for people living with bleeding disorders. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones and to the many patients, trainees, and colleagues whose lives she touched.

Dr. Malec served as senior medical director of the Versiti Medical Sciences Institute and as the program director for the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders. A nationally recognized expert in hemophilia and rare bleeding disorders, she brought together clinical care, research, and education to improve patient outcomes across our region and beyond. Her work helped expand access to innovative therapies, including gene therapy, and strengthened the care model for individuals and families living with complex bleeding conditions.

Those who worked alongside Dr. Malec remember not only her scientific rigor and clinical expertise but also her warmth, curiosity, and deep commitment to patient-centered care. She believed in partnering with patients and families, mentoring the next generation of hematology leaders, and building collaborative teams that advanced both science and compassion.

At Versiti, we are honored to have been part of her work and her mission.

Her legacy lives on in the patients whose lives are stronger because of her care, the clinicians and researchers she mentored, and the continued progress toward better treatments and cures for bleeding disorders.
