Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels Makes First Blood Donation, Inspires Community Support

In a heartfelt gesture of community service, Mayor Justin Nickels of Manitowoc visited the Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin earlier this month to donate blood for the first time, inspiring residents and highlighting the importance of blood donation.

The visit was marked by community support and a shared commitment to saving lives. Inspired by his father’s lifelong dedication to volunteering and blood donation, Nickels said he wanted to continue the family tradition. His wife also joined him in giving blood, emphasizing that donation can be a meaningful family activity.

“The availability of the blood donation center right here in Manitowoc, just off Reed Avenue, makes it easy for residents to donate when it fits their schedule,” Nickels said. “It’s one of the simplest acts we can do as citizens to help others in need.”

The event underscored the vital role blood donations play in community health and well-being. Versiti Blood Center officials emphasized that every donation can bring hope and healing to someone in crisis, reaffirming their message that every eligible donor makes a difference.
