Rebecca Stults

“There is no doubt that without blood donors, I would not be here today. They absolutely saved my life.”

Rebecca Stults

Going into the birth of her last child, Rebecca Stults knew she may experience the same postpartum bleeding that she did after the birth of her first child. Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, the hospital was well equipped, and Rebecca received two units of blood to replace what she lost during labor.

“I was so incredibly thankful at that point that we had prepared, and that our hospital had a supply from donors on hand,” Rebecca says. She and her new baby soon went home, thinking that would be the end of the story. But two weeks after giving birth, Rebecca started to feel unwell.

“It turned out, I was having a secondary postpartum hemorrhage,” she says. “They are really rare. We were able to get to the hospital quickly, where they rushed to get the blood match going.” Over four days and two surgeries, Rebecca received seven units of blood.

“There is no doubt that without blood donors, I would not be here today,” she says. “It was one of the scariest moments of my life. I thank every donor, because they absolutely saved my life.”
